Update March 2025 - Playing basketball during a Lunar Eclipse

Caught up in the Solar Eclipse excitement, I just had to venture deep into upstate New York to position myself within the path of totality for a firsthand glimpse of this natural spectacle. 

As you can probably guess, before I could do any of that, I also ventured to look for pickup basketball during this Solar Eclipse spectacle.

I found myself in a small town, Watertown, NY, and immediately looked for a basketball court. Keeping my expectations low, I found a nice basketball court at Adams Recreational Park, but as expected, there was no one there to play against.

Even though I didn’t get the opportunity to sink three-pointers on this extraordinary day, the alignment of our celestial bodies, with the moon swishing precisely across the sun's path, literally ‘shooting lights out’ around the world.

While I can’t describe the amazement of an eclipse, here are some low-quality phone photos of the eclipse through eclipse glasses.

Conclusion

I really have no idea what pickup basketball is like in Watertown, NY. I just wanted to catch the solar eclipse and just happened to end up in this city. I probably will never come back to this city again but it'll have a place in my heart forever. If anybody has information on what pickup basketball is like here, please, please, please let me know!
